The next Grey County ARES meeting will held as a joint meeting with the Georgian Bay Amateur Radio Club at the Land Forces Central Area Training Centre (a.k.a. the Meaford Tank Range) Wednesday Apr 9th 2008 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Jon VA3CIC has arranged this unique event for us. We will be treated to a show-and-tell information session by our hosts.
The Centre is on Grey Road 112 (the old Range Road) running north from Hwy 26 at a point 5 Km from Meaford and 24 Km from Owen Sound. Distance from Hwy 26 to the Centre is 6 km.
While the Centre has an "open base" policy, some conventions have to be observed, i.e. - No Amateur Radio transmissions permitted on base. - Cell phones are OK, but reception is marginal. - Cameras are OK. - It would be prudent to carry your ARES or GBARC club identification. - for your vehicles, there is a "no idling" policy as well as a "back in" policy. We will meet just outside the gatehouse and road barriers. Look for Jon's vehicle, a grey and silver Honda Element. Get there as close to 6:45 PM as you can. Talk in on 146.940. When we're assembled, we'll play follow the leader to Bldg 210. Don't forget to back into your slot! |

Grey ARES will be providing communications during the MS Super Cities Walk in Owen Sound on Sunday April 13th. If you can assist with 2m communications, using your mobile rig or hand-held, your help will be welcome. We will be meeting at the Owen Sound Legion at 9:00 a.m. while the walkers are registering, and will plan our positions along the 5 km and 10 km routes. We will meet the St. John Ambulance volunteers and decide who will be stationed with their ambulance crew. The walk starts at 10:00 and the last walker is usually back in at the Legion by about 12:30. A lunch follows. The Owen Sound Legion is at 1450 2nd Ave West. The 5 km route usually goes from the Legion to Kelso Beach Park, down to the Police Station then back to the Legion. The 10 km route is the same up to the Police Station but then goes to Harrison Park before returning to the Legion. The walk is one of the major fundraisers for the MS Society. 73, Bob VE3LKD |

At the October Grey County ARES meeting, we decided to switch the weekly 2m net to Monday nights at 8 pm. This avoids conflicts with all other nets (that we know of) and is a more convenient time for all who were present.
We also decided to change the repeater rotation to 1-2-3-1-2, that is, 1st Monday - 147.105 2nd Monday - 145.290 3rd Monday - 145.370 4th Monday - 147.105 5th Monday - 145.290 (if there are five Mondays in the month). |

Changed Meeting and Net Schedule The Grey A.R.E.S. group has decided to change the schedule of its monthly meetings and weekly nets. The meetings will now be at the United Way offices in Owen Sound every month and our change from Thursdays to Wednesdays is being made to fit into the availability of that meeting room. Our weekly nets are being moved from Wednesday to Monday so that we don't lose one net each month because of our A.R.E.S. meeting, and the time is being changed from 8:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Check our Net Schedule and meeting announcements for reminders of these changes. |
